In this colder time of year, handling your motorcycle can become more complicated. The ground is usually colder and more slippery, and we can also get cold if we are not well equipped. Here are some tips on how to handle your motorcycle in winter.
How to handle your motorcycle in winter?
The first thing we must tell you is to take the weather into account when you go out on a route. Although it is not common to find icy roads in our area, it is possible that in the coming dates you will take trips to areas in the north where you encounter this problem.
Our advice is to avoid traveling on icy roads, check if they exist on your route, and the temperatures you are going to pass through (if it is below 0º there is a possibility of encountering this problem). In the event that you cannot avoid them or you encounter them unexpectedly, try not to lean too much and not to touch the front brake.
Even if the temperatures are not that low, you can find very slippery surfaces, especially in painted areas. The dew of the night is the enemy of grip in low temperature situations.
Don’t skimp on cold weather gear for the motorcycle
The cold can turn a quiet motorcycle ride into a terrible experience. It is therefore very important that you wear enough warm clothing to avoid the cold.
The hands suffer a lot when riding the motorcycle, they are the most advanced area and the one that gets the most wind. Using long, waterproof, double-layered gloves is essential to prevent the winter cold from causing your hands to end up numb and burned by the cold.
In addition to the hands, the feet, as extremities, are the areas in which we tend to be coldest. Their blood supply, very far from the heart, cools quickly and we must protect them effectively. Waterproof boots, and if possible with lining, will allow you to maintain body heat on the coldest of days.
In the rest of the body, thermal underwear, made of materials such as wool or elastic synthetics, together with a waterproof jacket with a removable lining will keep you warm on your route.
