Braking properly on a motorcycle is one of the most important tasks that we must carry out when we start in the world of two wheels. Today we explain the correct way so you don’t get scared.
How to brake correctly on a motorcycle
Our motorcycles have brakes on both wheels, but this does not imply that both perform the braking in the same way. We have to keep in mind that when braking on a motorcycle, the front brake is the main brake to know how to brake on a motorcycle.
This means that our front brake is going to absorb a large amount of energy in braking so we must have it always ready. On the other hand, although current motorcycles include an ABS system that prevents the brake from locking up, it is important that we control the force we apply to it, since we can lose direction if we were to block it (especially on older motorcycles).
The rear brake, meanwhile, fulfills a fundamental function, maintaining the balance of the braking. Both brakes together ensure that the braking is in a straight line and both axles follow a trajectory.
Correct braking requires that we brake the rear slightly before applying the brake on the front. With this we will ensure that the motorcycle does not lift excessively from the rear and a balanced braking.
It is important that our braking is smooth and progressive, although sometimes, and for reasons of necessity, we make more abrupt braking.
How to brake when it rains?
When we face slippery surfaces we must change our approach to braking. We must increase our anticipation time and brake progressively. With this we avoid losing grip and losing control of our motorcycle.
